Stainless Steel Advantages

Unsurpassed Strength. Resilience. Resistance. Versatility. Durability.

All of the above describe the major benefits of using Stainless Steel in all of our drop boxes and returns.

Stainless Steel is an alloy that contains 10.5 to 11 percent Chromium. It contains a thin layer of oxides that protect the metal. If this layer suffers a breakdown, it’s able to repair itself and continue to protect the metal.

Stainless Steel does not readily corrode, rust or stain and is easy to clean and maintain.

Impact, Wear, and Abrasion Resistant

Stainless steel has excellent fatigue, impact, wear and abrasion resistance. Due to its unique self-healing property, if the surface is scratched or damaged otherwise, this thin layer, which is only a few atoms thick, immediately rebuilds with the assistance of oxygen from air or water. This is the reason why stainless steel does not require any coating or other corrosion protection to remain bright and shiny even after decades of use.

It is hygienic due to the smooth and minimally porous surface.

Low Maintenance

Stainless Steel is more resistant to wear and abrasion than aluminum or other materials.

The surface can be cared for regularly with a basic stainless steel cleaner.

The brushed stainless steel surface of our drop boxes makes it easy to remove graffiti and other harsh elements. All you have to do is use a scouring pad to remove the graffiti. No harsh chemical cleaners are needed.

Long Lasting

An interior drop box from American Security Cabinets can last for a lifetime, forever. All it requires is a quick polish here and there with a stainless steel cleaner to keep it looking brand new!

Our exterior drop boxes last over OVER 20 years on average. Rest assured that your exterior drop box will give you years upon years of use and can easily be polished using a stainless steel cleaner to keep it looking new.

Recyclable & Sustainable Resource

Stainless Steel is 100% recyclable. Over 65% of each drop boxes from American Security Cabinet is recyclable.

Stainless Steel has a very low carbon footprint. Recycling stainless steel saves enough energy to power about 18 million households for a year.

Fire Resistant

Stainless Steel is known for it’s high temperature oxidation resistance. The grade of stainless steel used for our drop boxes can be used to resist scaling at temperatures over 1800° F.

Lustrous

Stainless Steel makes for an attractive appearance for any object the material is used for. It can be polished to a satin or mirror finish with a basic stainless steel cleaner.

Stainless Steel Advantages

Origin:  Alloy that contains 10.5 – 11 percent Chromium, with a thin layer of oxides that protect the metal.

0small green

Life Span:  With interior use, stainless steel will last forever. With exterior use, stainless steel will last over 20 years!

Fire Resistance:  Stainless steel has a high melting point and is resistant to temperatures over 1800° F

Impact & Corrosion Resistance:  Due to its self-healing property, if scratches or damage occur, stainless steel will rebuild itself with the assistance of oxygen from air or water.

Maintenance:  Stainless steel does not require any type of corrosion or protection coating. To remove graffiti, a scouring pad can easily do the job. Stainless steel can easily be cleaned up with a standard stainless steel cleaner to make it look shiny and new!

Aluminum Disadvantages

0small red

Origin:  Aluminum is a metallic element that cannot be found in its pure form in nature.

0small red

Life Span:  With interior use, aluminum will last up to 20 years. With exterior use, aluminum will only last up to 5 years.

0small red

Fire Resistance:  Aluminum has a much lower melting point than stainless steel.

0small red

Impact & Corrosion Resistance:  Aluminum is very porous and is prone to surface scratches, dents, and other damage such as rust and corrosion and lacks the ability to self-heal.

0small red

Maintenance:  A clear coat must be added to the aluminum to keep the appearance from fading as it often becomes dull from corrosion and gets encrusted with brake dust, calcium, lime, grease, oil, and water stains. Harsh chemicals are required to remove these elements as well as graffiti.
